HUNDREDS OF ABCD HEAD START CHILDREN
CELEBRATE ON BOSTON COMMON
WHAT: An estimated 2,500 children (ages 3 to 5 years-old) gather to celebrate the end of the year andstart of summer with field day activities and a resource fair for Head Start families, friends and supporters.
WHERE: Around the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common
WHEN: Friday, June 2, 10 a.m. to NOON
WHO:
ABCD President/CEO John J. Drew, and Executive VP/COO Sharon Scott-Chandler welcome ABCD Head Start children, families, supporters, and local politicians.
Representatives from WIC, Boston Public Schools Countdown to Kindergarten, Neighborhood Health Plan, and many other family-oriented organizations offering resourceful information to the public.
BACKGROUND:
For more than 50 years Action for Boston Community Development’s Head Start has served tens of thousands of Boston children from low-income and disadvantaged families.
A nationally revered early childhood education program, Head Start provides preschool children developmental, educational, social, and nutritional support while encouraging and strengthening parental engagement.
Children, parents, and staff from more than 30 Head Start sites from throughout the Greater Boston area – including Malden and Everett, come together for a traditional festive and family-fun celebration. Closing another successful school year for the children and kick-off to the summer season.
