Field of Dreams hits it out of the park for youth

There was a plenty of cheer at Fenway Park on June 18, and this time it wasn’t because of the World Series Champion Red Sox.

ABCD’s 22nd Annual Field of Dreams softball benefit event raised $240,000 for the ABCD SummerWorks program, helping make it possible for more than 700 low-income teenagers to secure paying jobs, while receiving invaluable education, mentoring and tutoring throughout the summer.

The 2019 Field of Dreams event certainly provided plenty of highlights. From the delicious Fenway Franks served up by Aramark to the Red Sox Mascot Wally the Green Monster cheering on and interacting with the players, to former co-chair John Sasso receiving a special recognition award for his dedication and service to our organization, it was a very special day for ABCD.

Kudos to Partners HealthCare, Boston Children’s Hospital, John Hancock Financial Services, Ropes & Gray, LLP and The TJX Companies, Inc., who all returned this year to keep their magical streak alive of participating in 22 consecutive Field of Dreams events.

Other corporate sponsor teams this year included: DMB Financial, Shields Health Care Group; Steward Health Care Network; Brazonics, which closed down its New Hampshire operations for the day to participate in Field of Dreams for the first time; and Joseph Abboud, who joined his company in the festivities and took part in the midday check presentation which took place behind Fenway’s home plate.

Special gratitude goes out to co-chairs Lew Eisenberg and Bill Kennedy for keeping us on track and to the numerous in-kind sponsors, community partners and volunteers for making it all possible.

Last but certainly not least, ABCD tips its hat once again to our gracious host, the Boston Red Sox, for lending us Fenway on behalf of Boston youth.
